1AND1 is an inclusive mental health and wellness company that helps people “Become 1% Better, Together.” They believe wellness is multi-dimensional, and it's important to work toward all dimensions of wellness to improve your life as a whole. 1AND1 was already supporting people on their wellness journey by providing reliable, science-backed advice, but they wanted to do more.
Outcome
We leveraged 1AND1’s wellness resources to create an app that supports and drives the user’s wellness journey. It walks users through the process of forming healthy habits to achieve their long-term goals, giving them the support they need to stay motivated and on track.
Wellness for everyone
Minority groups are often underrepresented in the mainstream media. The statement remains equally true when it comes to wellness advice. Whether it's the exclusionary scope of physical wellness or the belittling tone of “self-care” advice on mental health, the unique needs and perspectives of minorities are often overlooked. 1AND1 wanted to do things differently, ensuring that minority groups felt seen and heard. This impacted every step of the process, from the language we used to the types of goals and habits we created. As a Black founder, Thomas Drew wanted to create an app to help pave a healthy path forward for BIPOC communities.
Making goal-setting
less daunting
Our goals can often feel overwhelming. When we think about taking our first steps toward them, it can feel like there are just too many barriers between where you are now and where you want to be. 1AND1 takes your goals and breaks them into digestible, achievable steps you can use to make incremental changes that will ultimately lead to your goal. We call these changes ‘habits’, and you can choose how often and for how long you perform a habit for. Beyond that, the app provides useful ‘how-tos’ that give you a good place to start, leaves motivational messages, and prompts you to reflect on how things are going.
Building to scale
The MVP we built for 1AND1 has laid the foundation for machine learning, allowing us to learn from common user patterns on the app, positioning 1AND1 to rapidly scale post-launch.
